Speaking of blogs and genre, I’ve always thought of your blog as the “What if ee cummings went to get a PhD in Rhetoric?” blog. This post is a great example.
funny: just wednesday(?) i posted in c&a about oats & mangoes, with only slightly more syntax (although i cheated a little and explained).
we should get those things together; oats with honey, mandarines & mangoes… there’s a fantastic breakfast plan in there somewhere.
i’m glad i’m not the only one easily & thoroughly amused by decontextualizing the (are they really? always?) seemingly-perfectly-reasonable things we say & scrapbooking them for public observation…
ee, eh? I’ll take it as a compliment, Krista. I just try to keep it thoughtful and experimental–always trying to do things here that I can’t say quite the same way anyplace else. Plenty of other spaces for seriousness and formality, right?
I saw the entry you mention, Tyra. After Madeline filled in the blank (some kind of song, maybe?), it all came clearer. Well, not really, but I had the sense that you and E. were engaging in office talk. And you’re right that you’re not the only one who gets kicks from decontextualizing the mundane.
