Sugar depressed? Down in the right-eating caloric dumps?
\nSuffering from post-holidaysal dietary balance? Worry not! Today is Peanut
\nButter Pie Friday.<\/p>\n

\n\"Peanut<\/a>\n<\/p>\n

Okay, so you get the picture. I cooked up a pair of delightfully
\npeanut-buttery PB pies a few minutes ago, working from a recipe given to me by a
\nco-worker in the gig I was working nine years ago. The conversation went
\napproximately as follows: D: That PB pie is really good. Co-worker: Want
\nthe recipe? D: Okay, why not. <\/p>\n

I have not had the peanut butter pie since. Not this peanut butter pie
\nnor any other. Not one time.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

However. When I went recipe-digging about ten days ago, I ran across
\nthe<\/i> index card. It said this:<\/p>\n

\n

Peanut Butter Pie<\/p>\n

1 c milk
\n\t1 c boiling water
\n\t2 1\/2 tbsp corn starch
\n\t1\/4 tsp salt
\n\t1\/2 c peanut butter
\n\t3\/4 c sugar
\n\t3 egg yolks<\/p>\n

Mix peanut butter and boiling water until smooth. Mix corn starch, sugar,
\n\tsalt, egg yolks with mix. Combine with peanut butter mixture and cook until
\n\tthick. <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

The procedure for crust is on the back of the card, which is signed,
\nsurprisingly enough, L.L. Dec. 1997<\/i>. For the crust it’s a fairly
\nstraight-forward combination of flour, shortening, and water. As you can see in
\nthe photo, I lazied my way around the crust-making labors and grabbed some
\nKeebler pre-mades from P&C. One graham cracker and one chocolate-graham,
\ndirectly from the elves. And why make pies? We’re visiting with friends tomorrow
\nafternoon, and I was appointed to the desserts.<\/p>\n

You needn’t wait until next January to try the recipe. Heck, as far as
\nI care, any<\/i> Friday can be a P.B.P.F. Or every<\/i> Friday. But
\nmost especially<\/i> the Friday that’s one day before EWM turns three.
\nWhatever. You and your calories (which will take on a life all their own) can
\nthank me later because, believe me, the joys of cooking a peanut butter pie are
\nno ordinary joys of cooking.<\/p>\n
