{"id":6194,"date":"2004-12-15T09:23:25","date_gmt":"2004-12-15T09:23:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.earthwidemoth.com\/blog\/2004\/12\/15\/when-one-column\/"},"modified":"2025-05-28T16:40:31","modified_gmt":"2025-05-28T20:40:31","slug":"when-one-column","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.earthwidemoth.com\/blog\/2004\/12\/15\/when-one-column\/","title":{"rendered":"When One Column Is Short and the Other Column Is Long"},"content":{"rendered":"<span class=\"span-reading-time rt-reading-time\" style=\"display: block;\"><span class=\"rt-label rt-prefix\">\u23f3 Approximate reading time: <\/span> <span class=\"rt-time\"> &lt; 1<\/span> <span class=\"rt-label rt-postfix\">min<\/span><\/span>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Because recent entries have been shrinking, sapped by nothing other than personal deficits in time, energy and attention span, and because I&#8217;ve managed to steal five minutes here and there for the minutiae of blog-tweaking this semester\u2014<a href=\"http:\/\/hitmaps.open.ac.uk\/\">a visitor hitmap<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.geobytes.com\/IpLocator.htm\">Geobytes IP locater<\/a>, a Flickr thing, and now a feedlist (java-generated from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bigbold.com\/rssdigest\/\">RSS Digest<\/a>) from my <a href=\"http:\/\/del.icio.us\/\">del.icio.us<\/a> account\u2014the right column exceeded the left column, forcing me to change the threshold of recent entries from nine to twelve so the centered bits from the right column wouldn&#8217;t be floating freely at the bottom of the screen.\u00a0Probably it&#8217;s time to convert to a three-column design, eh?\u00a0 Or I could reverse that shrinking trend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On another break from project writing, I recently dropped a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.robotstxt.org\/wc\/norobots.html\">robots exclusion<\/a> file in the main blog directory to curb bot-traffic hunting through extraneous stuff I keep on the server.
