Long Jump

We took in Ph.'s track meet in Oswego this afternoon, cruising up there with my dad and S. who are in Syracuse visiting us for a couple of days.

Ph. has been competing this spring in the long jump, the triple jump, and the 110 high hurdles. He placed third today in the long jump and triple jump. Here, in a photo snapped by S., he's gliding to his longest long jump of the meet: 18-2.

What a great shot! I don't know much about long jumping, but 18-2 sounds like a good distance. :-)

It's intense, isn't it? As far as I know, 18-2 is a good jump. The two jumpers from Oswego who placed ahead of Ph. did so by a tiny margin. Small-college tracksters are posting jumps in the low 20s, and Wikipedia tells me the world record is somewhere around 30 feet. The only way I could soar for 18-2 through the air is if I was pushed from a two-story building.
