Baby

I thought I should include some sort of baby poem or baby song ("Mamas don't let your babies grow up to be _______"). I decided not to. There will be plenty enough time for that later on.

Until last Sunday we'd kept the news top secret, but now that several friends and family members are in the loop (except E., man, what's up with your cell phone number?, and G. & S., never at home or not answering), I figure, time to let loose to all of blogspace or at the very least those who might be interested in such an event. Many apologies if the news reaches you this way and seems, therefore, impersonal (I wanted to tell you in person!) A baby's on the way, due in early September. Everyone's excited, happy, healthy (and deep wishes for continued health persist...oh, well, yes, and excitement, happiness, too).

I'm not sure how the rest of this announcement is supposed to go. I think it's complete. And to remind you, I've copied in the code for a due-date ticker which will linger for the next several months up top.

What, not busy enough? ;-) Best wishes!

Wow! So many little ones around. How exciting. And from someone who's 4 months in, it is really great! Just get over that early hump, and it is amazing.

Jen

PS -- I took exams with a 3 month old -- you'll be fine! 2 am reading during feedings is always good!

What great news. Congrats!

Thanks, everybody. We're thrilled and anxious.

As you know, Donna, I have plenty enough to do, but it's one of those life-timing moments. I'll have a fair amount of time at home in the fall, and while I should dedicate a sliver of it to studying for qualifying exams, I should be able to keep up with my workload (which, beyond preparing for exams involves teaching one course--a new prep).

You know, Jen, it's the guiding mantra for second-years: What would Jen do? I should be on pace for November exams (with any luck) so I'll be at the 3 mo. moment, as well. Oh, and sorry for being so shifty when (not) answering your questions about whether a baby was in the plans. You were the one person who was onto us--who asked more than once about it and who left me no choice but to dodge, deceive, etc., with: "Uh, um, you know. We'll see."

this is so very damn cool - congratulations!

This is exciting. I'm so happy for you and the family. Congratulations!!!

Don't get me wrong: I'm all admiration for your amazing ability to do many things, and do them well, all at the same time. If anyone can handle the challenges and delights of a new baby, it's certainly you!

Wow! That's terrific! Congratulations...you're in for the most amazing time of your life. Give the Mom-To-Be a big hug for me.

Another round of thank-yous to everyone for the kind thoughts. And I appreciate your vote of confidence, Donna. I took it as such. ;) Only needed to respond to coax myself into beleiving it!

Most amazing time of my life, eh, Denise? Ph. would probably amend that to say "second" most amazing.

Mazel Tov-- There's something about having the second one that makes you feel like, well, they will have, corny as it sounds-- each other as a gift.

Congratulations! Get some sleep when you can. The blog can wait. Oh...and pictures...eventually. Thanks!

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

Little variation in my expressions of gratitude, but I want to be sure everyone knows it's nice to get dump-trucked with so many kind thoughts at the blog. I should write entries titled like this more often (A thought: tomorrow's entry: "Baby!"); highest comment count ever in over two years at EWM.

congrats, y'all! (sorry i didn't see this for a while--got a bit behind in my blogroll)

i'm sure you'll love having a very wee fragile bairn to hold in your big basketball hands & dotty will love a warm little bundle to snuggle (Ph being a little tall & gangly for that) & Ph will be a *fantastic* big brother!

I have found the perfect name for your child, if you have a daughter. (And if you don't like it, maybe we'll use it ourselves if we ever have children.)

Thanks for the suggestion, Jon. I'll, uh, suggest it to D. and see what she thinks. 'Tica for short, I suppose, eh?
