View of the World

Heading to San Francisco first thing in the morning to give a paper called "Ping! Re-Addressing Audience in the Blogosphere" at the flagship CCCC, the annual conference for college composition and communication. And I've never been to California before (no closer than Portland and Phoenix, anyhow).  Because I still have to pack, have this, a statement on worldview:

Saul Steinberg's "View of the World from 9th Avenue" (via)

No telling whether I'll luck into a reliable net connection in SF (which I'd use to post a few photos, probably, little else).

You'll love it. It's the only place in America where you can walk into a butchershop and get a pound of veggie salami (mostly only in the Castro). There's a great restaurant called the Stinking Rose or something like that...nothing is served sans garlic. Even the coffee, probably. And if you go to the Fog City Diner (proclaimed an historical landmark) be careful not to get refills on your drink. They charge. Like 2 bucks per glass. Dr. B. (www.samanthablackmon.net) is going to be there presenting, too. Check her out if you have time.

SF was good, Alice, except for the light rain each of the last two days there. I'll be posting a few pictures later on, once I get settled and so on.

And I eventually managed a safe flight, E., albeit into Rochester last night, which was then followed by a ninety minute car ride to Syracuse. Safe flight...so you were the one who summoned the cancellation in Chicago. Hope you enjoyed smooth travels home.
