Small Things

Today in flora and fauna:

More Mueller Botanicals

Above: Cleared out spaces adjacent to the lilac bush.  Ph. and I then built
up 12-15 hills and planted zucchini, yellow squash and watermelon

garden2

Above: Four tomato plants here along with a jalapeno, green bell pepper and
another watermelon hill. It’s messy because I cut the grass after Ph. and I
spent about two hours weeding, digging/hoeing and planting.

People with Plants

Puppy Noname

Puppy Noname

And until we come up with something, he’s Mister Needs-a-name. Ideas?

  1. He’s a cute puppy–what kind of mix is he? And is he a puppy? How about Ph.D for Ph’s dog? Okay, maybe not.

  2. Thanks for the suggestions. Lots of good possibilities here. We need to settle on one soon, but we still haven’t reached family-wide consensus.

Learned yesterday that he was born in Missouri, so we were thinking over M0-themed names: Truman, Show-me, etc.

He’s a mix of beagle and pug, Joanna (favoring beagle, just a bit). They said he’ll get to be about 20 lbs when fully grown.

  3. Another good one. I think we might have to just drop them all into a hat and pick. It’s not getting easier to train a puppy without a name. I was looking into his hometown landmarks and newspaper to find materials to name from, but it’s still a stalled effort. Harlen? No. Red? No.

  4. I don’t want to hog the comments, but now that you’ve narrowed it down to a specific town, I have two more. West Plains is in one of the most remote and interesting parts of the state (if also a little scary, in a Deliverance kind of way, depending on how far out of town you venture). Deep in the hills/mountains of south-central MO, it is the quintessence of the Ozarks. So, Ozzie would be a good choice, as would Bill or Billy (as variations on hillbilly, a term of honor to south-central Missourians).

  5. Would you believe the pup’s dad was named Billy Bob Casino? I’m not kidding. But that rules out Bill/y or Bob/by. Well, yeah, and Casino (won in a bet?). Ozzie’s a good option. We’ve all agreed to settle on a name at the dinner table this evening.
