Spectral Season

D. and I drove over to Marcellus this afternoon to take in one of Ph.’s last
soccer matches of the fall.  I can’t overstate the value of getting off
campus, winding through the CNY countryside this time of year.  Several
amazing scapes surround on Syracuse’s edges; we turned off at Marcellus Falls
just before arriving at the field.  I probably won’t be able to take in
either of the last two matches (next week), and I still hadn’t snapped any pics
this season, so we had several good reasons to make the 30 minute drive.

The digital camera’s been on the shelf all fall.  I’ve used it
intermittently–wacky in-house blogabilia, but nothing like I was doing a year
ago when chronicling these
fellas
(#4
nationally
, wtg E. et al.) was my mainstay.  So I dusted of the
electra-kodachrome, shuttered a few moments from today’s match.  Below, two
of my favorites.  More photoshere.

  1. Hello Mr. Mueller,

I hope all is well. I missed your digital camera as well. But not as much as I missed you and your family. I am glad you made it to Ph game. I wish I could see him play again. For some reason, I can’t see the pictures you took. You know how I am D. Help me out please.

  2. Wow. Can’t believe I had bad image tags up all weekend and nobody said a thing! The images were pulling from the home computer, so they looked perfect from there. Now that I’m on campus, I saw, as you did, that the photos weren’t coming through. Should be fixed now.

As for Ph.’s soccer, all credit goes to you. He’s discovering he has a foot–bombing shots on goal from uncanny distances. Whatever works, I say. Oh, and check the link with the additional photos. I’m curious who taught him the hip grab. Must have been McLaughlin. Good luck with Hastings and Lindsey.

  3. Thank you Mr. D for the pictures. Phillpi looks good in all the pictures. I bet he is fun to watch. The background of the field looks amazing. Pleased say hello to both Ph. and D

  4. Ph.’s season ended Thursday with a 3-0 win on the road. He had a pair of assists, one of those from a corner kick. He’s figured out how to place the ball. On Tuesday, it was a 4-4 tie against an undefeated team. Ph.: two assists, both from corner kicks. Work the curve, right?

And yesterday, to top it off, he had a short school day followed by a team gathering. He was very excited to be selected as team MVP. Considering they finished 5-6-1 afer starting 0-4, I’d say they had a solid season. Ph. had a goal or an assist in every game during the turn-it-around stretch–the 5-2-1 second-half of the season. Not bad for being the new kid (and a relief for parents worried about easing into a new social scene).
